One part of this game I really have liked is the low pressure build system. Sneaking around has helped with that somewhat.

The bottom line is that more often than not, there are too many enemies coming at you to effectively parry everyone. It's not bad, it's just not what I was expecting, especially when the tutorial level sets up this system of very methodical and strategic parrying. I think the comparisons to Nioh are valid, but honestly feels like this game shares more with Stranger of Paradise in terms of combat. Co-op has been a joy and helpful for dealing with some ridiculous difficulty spikes with bosses (even for this genre). Magic, to me, also feels very underpowered, at least in terms of projectiles.

The game feels looser than other souls-likes in combat and the window for timing parries feels like it comes so much earlier than it should. My initial impressions are about the same as what others have said here. Have only had a chance to get to Chapter 3 in this one so far (playing on PS5, which doesn't seem to suffer from the same PC performance issues). Had my ass handed to me so often, but that just increased my determination to master and defeat the game, so much so that I eventually finished every difficulty level, and had a blast doing so. I ended up embracing the difficulty challenge, and found that learning the tactics of the game, whilst pretty challenging, was ultimately hugely rewarding, and I loved the game as a result. I am by no means a huge fan of this particular genre, but I did end up buying Nioh a few years ago, and did struggle to get into it for a while - died on the very first baddie multiple times and spent ages trying to defeat Onryoki for the first time. To each their own of course though, as I know a lot of people love them now. I play games to have fun, not to get extremely frustrated over and over again. Yes, I know the whole 'git gud' crap, but that is exactly that, crap. I don't get the appeal of beating your head up against a wall for hours upon hours until you finally advance. So, what you're trying to say is that you don't like the game?
